Mission Statement: Making a rainbow of disciples for the glory of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit
  The Vision
Buenas Noticias Latinas (*Good News for Hispanics ) is a Great West District ministry in Nebraska with area Hispanics, who make up the fastest growing portion of our population.  Until our activities began, there had been no Good News in Spanish for the many families and “pockets” of workers.

This ministry serves two primary areas:  the Imperial area, including nearby communities of Wallace and Wauneta, and the North Platte River Valley, centering on the Gering/Scottsbluff area.  The Imperial area ministry extends from potato operations in northern Dundy County, to Northeastern Colorado, to Southwest Lincoln County.  The North Platte River valley area follows the North Platte valley from western Morrill County through Gering and Scottsbluff westward to Lyman and into eastern Wyoming.

The primary goal of the District is to establish faith communities.  These small informal gatherings for scripture reading, prayer and song become the seeds for future churches.  At the core of our ministry is our conviction that the Spirit will guide us in this vital mission with Hispanics in the District.

In addition to offering Good News, our ministry will provide Hispanics with an array of vital supportive social services:  for example, court and hospital advocacy, after school programs (H.E.L.P.), and relief assistance.  We want to stand compassionately with our Hispanic sisters and brothers in whatever challenges they face.
Another major goal of the ministry is to create awareness in non-Hispanic churches of the rapidly growing Hispanic population, their culture and needs.

At Centro Hispano Wesleyano, Jesus’ command to “make disciples of all nations” is taken seriously. The doors are open to all who wish to share in praise and worship to the one and only true God. Services are conducted in Spanish, but they can as easily be said bilingually.  The band “Zomar” (which means to praise) leads the congregation in praise and worship and is known for its diverse music, which touches the hearts.

Pastor Juan Espinoza is the leader.  He may be young in years, but like David, he has a great passion for the Lord’s work. Great emphasis is placed on the children, because they are tomorrow’s future. The vision for Centro Hispano Wesleyano is that the sanctuary will be over-filled, and the walls  removed to make more room.

Ebenezer Imperial

Andrea Duran heads up the mission in Imperial under the direction of Rev. Kay Alnor. The seeds of ministry were planted by Patricia Gandarilla during her time in Imperial and the ministry was nurtured by Miguel and Magui Ramos (who departed in 2007)  and then continued through the efforts of Cesar Duran.

The National Plan for Hispanic Ministries  of the United Methodist Church

A new reality is being born in our generation, as the Lord of history brings together peoples of various cultures and traditions.  It is a time laden with opportunity.  It is within this larger context that the United Methodist Church must look at its Hispanic ministries.  Such ministries are not just an attempt to serve Hispanics; they are also, and above all, a call to faithfulness on the part of the entire church, so that we may all join God’s action in the creation and development of the new reality that is being  born.

The National Plan Calls for:
  • Development of faith communities and new congregations among Hispanics.
  • Revitalization of existing Hispanic congregations.
  • Initiation of new outreach ministries with Hispanics.
  • Recruitment and training of Hispanic and non-Hispanic leaders, clergy and lay, particularly lay missioners, working in teams to develop faith communities, community ministries, and new congregations.

The National Plan Challenge Calls for:
  •  Sensitize the entire church to the need of and opportunities for Hispanic ministries.
  •  Encourage congregations to become involved in a process of surveying their community to discover need and opportunities for Hispanic ministries.
  •  Identify places where Hispanic ministries need to begin and develop plans for them.
  • Find places where non-Hispanic churches have an opportunity to engage in Hispanic ministries, and help such churches in doing so.
  •  Identify and assign lay missioners where needed.
  •  Seek and provide opportunities to develop  needed leaders for Hispanic ministries.
  •  Provide financial resources necessary to initiate and this ministry.
  •  Study, develop, and carry out realistic policies and procedures concerning shared facilities.
